Remigijus Bridikis was appointed to the position of the Director of the State Security Department for the term of five years on April 10, 2025 by the Decree of the President of the State. On April 14 R. Bridikis starts his duties as the Director of the State Security Department.
The Director of the State Security Department is appointed and released by the President of the State with the approval of Lithuanian Parliament.
Curriculum vitae of the Director
In the period of 1995–1999 R. Bridikis worked in the Dignitary Protection Department under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania.
In 1999, he began serving in the Lithuanian Armed Forces Special Operations Forces (SOF). Until 2007 he was a senior Specialist of the SOF Personnel Division, Head of the Division, Deputy Chief for Personnel and Administration.
From 2007 to 2009 he served in the SOF Headquarters as Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Training.
In the period of 2010–2013 he served in the NATO Special Operations Headquarters as Coordination Officer (SHAPE).
From 2013–2015 he served in theSOF as Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Training.
In the period of 2015–2025 R. Bridikis served as the Deputy Director of VSD.
R. Bridikis participated in three international missions in Afghanistan (2004, 2007 and 2008).
R. Bridikis has a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Master’s degree in Biology. He studied in the Baltic Defense College in Estonia. He attended various special operations, defense, counter-terrorism, and intelligence courses and seminars.
R. Bridikis was awarded with the following awards:
Medal of the Order of the Cross of Vytis; Officer’s Cross of the Order of the Cross of Vytis; Internal Security Service of the Republic of Estonia (KAPO) Award ‘Cross of Merit’; Intelligence Service of the Kingdom of Norway (NIS) Medal ‘For Merit’; Medal ‘For Distinction’ of the National Defense System of the Republic of Lithuania; Medal ‘For Merit’ of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and others.
The most essential functions of the Director of VSD
The Director of VSD fulfils the tasks of the State President, Seimas and the Government which are related to the functions of the State Security Department: leads and represents the Department, organizes its work, proposes the projects of laws and other legal acts to the public authorities with legislative initiative, the highest authority of the country and, if necessary, state and municipality institutions; provides the information related to the state security, conclusions and recommendations.
